Spring is here and as we do every year, we will celebrate International Museum Day.  In its bimonthly newsletter, Icom explores four topics around the main theme:  “The Future of Museums: Recover and Recreate.”

 EUROPEAN PROJECTS OF THE MUCEM

This newsletter will introduce you the the projects the MUCEM

undertakes in collaboration with its various European partners.

ALEXANDRIA (reactivating the common urban imaginaries (2020-2023)

ALEX, as the project is known, aims to take a new look at the many challenges encountered by the arts and heritage sectors through the symbolic and historical prism of the city of Alexandria  and its influences on urban development in the Mediterranean basin and beyond.

RECULTURE: RE-BRANDING OF CULTURAL INSTITUTIONS IN WESTERN BALKANS (2021-2024)

RECULTURE; RE-BRANDING OF CULTURAL INSTITUTIONS IN THE WESTERN BALKANS (2021-2024)

RECULTURE is a long-term European project with a two-fold objective: to offer more visibility and to provide a more modern appearance to cultural institutions of the Western Balkans. Accomplishing this objective will make it possible to support relations and encourage cooperation between the cultural and creative sectors within the Western Balkans and the European Union.
The Mucem is part of the effort to develop partnerships which will implement new strategies for development and create new communication tools.

TAKING CARE

TAKING CARE

This project will explore the connections between ethnographic collections and issues concerning the climate crisis and the Anthropocene.   In this context, it will address issues related to the afterlives of colonialism.

In June 2021, the partners in this project will be invited to participate in a laboratory  of creative studies at the MUCEM centered around several research topics including conceiving sustainable futures and taking care in a world we all share.

The Mucem has collected a number of items related to the lockdown.  The work of guest artists in residence at the Mucem will be exhibited in December 2021 at the CCR of the Mucem.
